Proxy access

Children under 11

We can give parents "proxy access" to online services for their children, provided that the child is under 11 years of age.

Proxy access allows you to;

  • Book appointments
  • Cancel appointments
  • Order repeat prescriptions
  • Nominate your usual pharmacy

To grant access we need to be sure that you have parental responsibility for the child.  If we are in doubt we will not grant access.

The system only allows us to grant proxy access if the parent is themselves registered with us. Unfortunately, proxy access can only be given to one parent.

When your child is over 11 years of age we will remove proxy access as this will not be automatically be given. It is assumed that a young person over 11 will have capacity to decide on their health care and who has access to their personal medical records.

Please see the NHS pages about proxy access to records / capacity for young people.

If you wish to request proxy access to your childs records, you must do so in writing by either email or letter which will be reviewed by the GP.

Children 11 - 16 years of age will not have online access and will need to contact the practce for appointments by telephone or email.

In the eyes of the law, if a person is over 16 years of age they have the right to confidentiality at the GP surgery. Patients over 16 can apply for their own passwords to access their own NHS online services.
